Is pregnancy massage safe?
Massage throughout pregnancy is safe and is very beneficial to your health and the way you feel. The treatment is safely carried out in the side-lying position which reduces pressure on your limbs and bump. You will be asked to complete a consultation form in advance to identify any health concerns. If you have a health condition then medical consent is advised prior to treatment.
There are certain areas on the body that a trained therapist will avoid applying deep pressure to as they relate to acupuncture points on the body linked with inducing labour. These are located on the ankles, wrists, and the top of the shoulders. Lighter massage in these areas is advised. Additionally, most insurers only protect therapists for clients receiving treatment in second and third trimester because of the general higher probability of miscarriage in the first trimester. Massage does not cause miscarriage but insurers prefer to avoid the first trimester nonetheless.
I loved every second of my massage! Devon was very professional and made me feel very comfortable and relaxed throughout. Will definitely be returning.Penny Sharp, Hairdresser
